Greenville, SC
Mr. Cecil George DeCoteau, 75, of Greenville, was born on July 28, 1949, in Grenada, West Indies. He was the son of the late Mollie DeCoteau Saunders. Cecil transitioned to reward at his residence on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Cecil was the proud husband of Francine Williams DeCoteau with whom he was united in holy matrimony for the past 50 years.
Cecil lived a rich and full life, marked by his passion for soccer, both on and off the field. He was a dedicated fan of Barcelona and Arsenal, regularly tuning into the Soccer Channel. When he wasn't immersed in the world's most popular sport, Cecil found joy in cycling, with the picturesque route from Cleveland Park to Travelers Rest being a particular favorite.
His professional life saw him dedicate over three decades to Michelin North America US1, where he retired as a respected Quality Engineer. Retirement opened new avenues for Cecil, who spent his later years globetrotting with his beloved wife, family, and friends, exploring destinations both near and far.
Beyond his hobbies, Cecil was a man of sharp intellect and warm spirit. He was an ardent follower of politics and had a keen eye on the stock and financial markets. His family often gathered to enjoy his delicious Caribbean-style cooking. Perhaps most memorably, Cecil was known for his profound words of wisdom and encouragement. He often shared his guiding principle: “The good, sweet, burgundy way of life,” a powerful reminder to all to fully embrace every day. And Cecil certainly did.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Francine, are his two daughters, Marvis DeCoteau (Dexter) Kelly of Atlanta, GA, and Fallon Genez DeCoteau of Greenville, SC; one bonus daughter, Yolanda Gant (Thomas) Upshaw of Atlanta, GA; four brothers, Alwyn DeCoteau and Jerry (Gertrude) Donovan both of Houston, TX, George (J'vell) DeCoteau of Greenville, SC, and Kennedy John of Grenada, West, Indies; two God-sons, Bracy Hunt of Greenville, SC and DeAndre DeCoteau of Greenville, SC; and five bonus grandchildren. Cecil is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends to whom his life brought great blessings. Cecil was predeceased by his daughter Kendra Kama DeCoteau.
A Graveside Celebration of Cecil’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
