Obituary

Mr. John Thomas Berry, Jr., 57, of Greenville, South Carolina, entered into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at his residence. Born on February 2, 1969, he was the beloved son of Rev. Dr. John Thomas Berry, Sr. and Rev. Gracie Berry. Affectionately known as Johnny, John was a devoted son, father, brother, and friend who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and lived a life marked by faith, kindness, and love for others. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and encouraged those around him to embrace life to the fullest.

John graduated from Southside High School in 1987, where he excelled as a standout football player. His talent on the field led him to Clemson University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting as a member of the Class of 1991. He later built a successful career in management, earning the respect of colleagues through his leadership and dedication.

A passionate student of genealogy and ancestry, John found great joy in uncovering his family’s history and preserving its legacy for future generations. His love for family extended far beyond the present, connecting the past with the future through the stories he worked so diligently to preserve. Family was at the heart of John's life. He treasured the time he spent with loved ones and had a remarkable fit for making everyone feel seen, included, and loved.

Surviving, along with his parents, are his children, Brandon Berry and Jana Berry of Atlanta, Georgia; his former spouse, LaSonya Berry; his siblings, Denetrice Berry-Brunner of Simpsonville, South Carolina, Frederick (Rev. Pamela) Berry of Mauldin, South Carolina, and Jacqueline Berry of Simpsonville, South Carolina; his nieces, Aleea and Tasha; his nephews, Andre, Robert, Marcus, Jayden, Julian, and Dayveon; and a host of beloved relatives and friends.

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
