Joe Douglas McJunkin

February 12, 1941 — April 20, 2024

On February 12, 1941, a baby boy entered the life of the late James Monroe and Mildred Inez Jones McJunkin. This baby boy was named Joe Douglas McJunkin. Joe's early childhood life was enjoyable. He played Jack Stones, marbles, jumped rope, and played ball. He enjoyed playing in the family's pond even though he had not learned to swim at that time. Joe joined Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Marietta, SC at an early ageattended Sunday school and church services regularly. He was baptized in the South Saluda River, Marietta, SC.

 Joe's early childhood education began when he was six years old. His first school was Slater-Marietta Elementary School in Marietta, SC.   His first teacher and principal were his dad, James Monroe McJunkin. Joe attended Sterling High School in Greenville, SC and he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1959. His father trusted him with his automobiles so he could transport his mother and sisters where ever they needed to go (His Dad would be at work). Joe was not only trustworthy but diligent with his duties. Joe taught his sister, Eleanor Jean, to drive a stick shift truck. He was known to say to his mother, "If you buy some screen and a door hinge I will build another kitchen screen door for you."

Joe came to Cleveland, OH in 1959. He worked at St. John Hospital on Detroit Road where he met and later married the love of his life, Ethel on September 7th, 1963. To this union two children were born, Daughter; Cynthia Maria and son; Joseph Douglas. Joe continued his education earning his Bachelor of Science Degree (Management Major) Cum Laude, from Dyke College, Cleveland, OH, 1983. His Objective was a challenging position of responsibility in Credit Management, using his skills in leadership, analysis communications and problem solving.

 Joe was a Charter member and Trustee of Affinity Missionary Baptist Church, Cleveland, OH under the pastorate of his late brother, Pastor James Edward McJunkin, Sr. Joe was faithful in attendance. Joe took great pride in maintaining security and safety as the Manager of Security for Affinity Baptist Church members and guests (part time) from 1983-2004. He protected every aspect of the church building, the pastor, grounds, members and automobiles. He also provided security for the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns.

 Joe leaves to cherish memories his wife, Ethel Mcjunkin; Daughter Cynthia Maria and son; Joseph Douglas McJunkin, granddaughter; Chaunte Keyara Lewis, sister Ruth Jamesa Mcjunkin Adams (Theodore), nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Pastor James Edward McJunkin and his sisters, Eleanor Jean McJunkin Turpin and Mae Helen Mcjunkin Patrick.

 Family Viewing Only: Friday, May 3, 2024, 11:00am - 12:00noon, at Watkins Garrett & Woods Mortuary, with interment in Mt. Able Baptist Church Cemetery.
