Apostle Herbert "Spongie" Edwards, Sr., 83, of Piedmont, husband of Claudia Woodruff Edwards, transitioned Sunday, August 30, 2026, at Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Summerville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Geneva Edwards.

Surviving, in addition to his wife: two daughters, Denice Robinson of Las Vegas, NV and Danielle Woodruff of Greenville, SC; three sons, Pastor Herbert (Karen) Edwards, Jr. of Spartanburg, SC, Timothy (Jamie) Woodruff, Spartanburg, SC, and Michael Woodruff of Piedmont, SC; one sister, Virginia (Julis) Smith of Newberry, SC; one brother, Minister Randolph (Eldree) Edwards of Simpsonville, SC; fifteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
