Myra Yvonne Gorham White, peacefully entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Open Arms Hospice in Simpsonville, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, (Michael White); her parents, (Inez West and Richard Gorham); and sister (Marcia Smart) Warren Smart. She was born in New Bern, North Carolina (Craven County) on June 28, 1943.

She was the eldest of 3 sisters and survived by Eunice Eileen Gorham. She is also survived by one aunt, Edna Dillahunt and one uncle, Rev. Russell West. She has one niece, Chantelle Gorham; two nephews, Jamel Smart (Michelle S.) & Ashanti Smart; two great nephews, Nahjua S Gorham (Renarda H.) & Alexander T and one great-great niece, Reanna Gorham.

She attended West Street Elementary School in New Bern, NC. Her father was a Navy sailor and during the mid-fifties he and his family were shipped to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where she learned to speak a little Spanish and with her family, enjoyed the country and its customs.

She graduated from J.T. Barber High School in New Bern in 1961. She married and moved to Washington, DC, where she worked at Children's National Hospital as a secretary/receptionist for several years and later transferred to St. Elizabeth Mental Hospital. She later returned to live and work in New Bern, NC for several more years then moved again to Havelock, NC, to live and work in New Bern for a clinical doctor as a medical transcriber.
While vacationing back and forth between North and South Carolinas several times, they decided to move permanently and live in Greenville, SC.

She enjoyed long lunches and shopping trips with her girlfriends and attended Israel Metropolitan CME Church where she served as an usher. After retiring from her job of several years in Greenville, she kept her spirits up by attending Virginia College and received an Associate Degree in Medical and Coding; going on several international boat cruises; reading many, many books of all genres; and by attending local jazz shows and wine tasting events.

She was a connoisseur of the wines and catalogued every good wine she experienced. Myra also enjoyed her extensive collection of R&B 45's, all kinds of jazz and even some classical albums.
Myra also leaves behind a host of cousins and close friends (Raleigh, Donna, Mary, Joanne & Rosemary) and two very helpful neighbors, (Irene and Andy).

The family wishes to deeply thank the staff and helpers of the Greenville Cancer Center; St Francis Hospital of Greenville; the Pearlie Harris Cancer Center; Open Arms Hospice, and the staff of the Bon Secours Health System for all of their care and services.

We will miss Myra most of all for her quick wit, her infectious laugh, and her loving, generous and caring spirit. She was truly loved and will truly be missed.
