Jimmy Evans

February 17, 1945 — February 1, 2021

Jimmy Lee Evans was born in Winston Salem, NC in 1945. He was the eldest son of the late Datcher Lee and the late Annie Elizabeth Evans. Jimmy graduated from Washington High School in Greenville, SC in 1963. Excited to chart his own path, he moved to Washington, DC in 1967. In 1972 he met Linda Welch, the love of his life, and they married in 1975. They built a beautiful family and life together, with two daughters Linda and Tracie.

Jimmy had a love for his family and his hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, baseball and rooting for his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. Jimmy had an incredible sense of humor and was always making everyone laugh. He was a hardworking and faithful servant, at home, at church and at work; as demonstrated by his retirement from Northrop Grumman in 2007 after 40 years of service.
In his retirement he continued to cherish all of his loves, in spite of health challenges. He most enjoyed spending time with his family. Some of his favorite memories were the birthday bashes held in his honor; especially his 60th and 70th birthdays, where family and friends gathered to celebrate him.

On Monday, February 1, 2021, the Lord decided to call Jimmy home. He is preceded in death by his parents, D.L. and Annie Evans; sister, Vivian D. Moss; and daughter, Linda M. Grantham. Jimmy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Linda W. Evans; his adoring daughter and son-in-law, Tracie and Michael Rustin; grandsons, Michael Jr. and Marcus Rustin; son-in-law, Elijah Grantham, Jr. (Linda, deceased); granddaughter, Giana Grantham; brother, Charles Evans, Sr. (Vicky); and sister, Vicky Stenhouse (Bruce Sr.). He also leaves to treasure his memory his loyal cousin and friend, Willie Green; caregiver, Helen Holmes; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Our beloved Jimmy, you will always be in our hearts. This is not “goodbye.” It is simply “see you later!”
